Server IP Address Ping returns IPv6 Address instead of IPv4

By | November 18, 2019

Sometimes you may notice that if you ping the server hostname it will return with an IPv6 address instead of IPv4.

The solution is to increase the priority of the IPv4 over the IPv6 protocol. This can be done by running the below commands using elevated command prompt.

netsh interface ipv6 set prefix ::/96 60 3
netsh interface ipv6 set prefix ::ffff:0:0/96 55 4
